本日は『宝尽群馬図鐔』（たからづくしぐんまずつば）を皆さまと鑑賞したいと思います
Today, I would like to enjoy “Takaradukushi-gunmazu tsuba” with everyone.
“宝尽くし”とは、元々は中国の吉祥思想の「八宝」などの文様で、いろいろな宝物を並べた縁起のよい吉祥文様のことです。吉祥とは「幸い」や「めでたい」ことをいいます。
“Takaradukushi” is originally a pattern that expresses happiness in China, and it is an auspicious pattern in which many treasures are lined up.
“Takaradukushi” means that there are many treasures.
それが室町時代に日本に伝わり、日本風にアレンジされて宝尽くし文様となりました。
“Takaradukushi” was introduced to Japan during the Muromachi period, and was arranged in a Japanese style to become a treasure-filled pattern.
宝尽くしの模様の中には”七宝”があります。
Among a treasure-filled pattern is the “shippou”.
鑑定書からは情報が読み取れませんでしたが、豚のような動物が2匹いるように見えます…
『宝尽群馬図鐔』の表面には七宝と、神獣と思われる生き物が彫られているのでしょうか。
I couldn’t read the information on the certificate, but it looks like there are two animals like pigs …
It looks like there are “shippou” and God beasts on the surface of the tsuba.
鐔の裏側には馬が8頭彫られています。
Eight horses are carved on the back of the tsuba.
『宝尽群馬図鐔』
無銘（むめい）（munei)：製作者の銘が刻まれていません（unknoum metal worker)
南蛮（なんばん）(nanban)：南蛮鐔というものは歴史が浅く、当初は外国の人々が使っていたサーベルの鐔を指すものでした。
徳川幕府が鎖国をした後に、中国から日本刀の鐔に使用できるように「南蛮鐔」として盛んに輸出され、日本国内でもこれをまねて改良が加えられた南蛮鐔が制作されました。
Nanban tsuba has a short history and was originally a saber tsuba used by foreigners.When the Tokugawa Shogunate closed the country, Nanban tsuba was actively exported from China to be used for Japanese sword tsuba.The improved Nanban Tsuba was also made in Japan.
丸形（まるがた）(marugata)：正円です。この鐔は直径が7.7cm、厚みは5mmでした。
It is a perfect circle. The diameter of this tsuba is 7.7 cm and the thickness is 5 mm.
鋤出高彫（すきだしたかぼり）（sukidashi-takabori)：平地よりモチーフを高くするために、模様の周りを彫り下げることをいいます。
Carving around the pattern to make the motif higher than the flat ground of the tsuba.
象嵌（ぞうがん）（zougan)：ある一つの素材に文様を彫り、そのくぼみに金などの別の素材を嵌め込む（はめこむ）ことをいいます。
It is the process of carving a pattern on one material and then fitting another material into the recess.
鋤残耳（すきのこしみみ）（sukinokoshi-mimi)：耳(mimi)の厚さと切羽台(seppadai)の厚さが大体同じくらいになるように、その間を鏨（たがね）で鋤いて下げたものをいいます。
The edge of the tsuba is called the “mimi”.
It is carved with a chisel so that the thickness of the “mimi” and the thickness of the seppadai are almost the same.
鐔の表と裏のモチーフがここまではっきりと違うものを倶楽部御台で鑑賞するのは初めてですね。
It’s the first time for us to appreciate something with a distinctly different motif on the front and back of the tsuba at Club Midai.
南蛮鐔は日本のモチーフが少なく異国情緒溢れる鐔で、現代でもとても人気が高いです。
Nanbantsuba is an exotic tsuba and is still popular today.The feature is that there are few Japanese motifs.
