Today, I would like to appreciate “Un Ryūzu-tsuba” with everyone.

雲龍図鐔（うんりゅうず つば/Un Ryū zu-tsuba）
銘（めい/Mei) 安則（やすのり/Yasunori)
この鐔には、鐔の制作者の安則の名前が刻まれています。これを銘といいます。
This tsuba is engraved with the name of Yasunori, the creator of the tsuba. This is called “Mei”.
竪丸形（たてまるがた/Tatemarugata) (Vrtical round shape)
：正円ではなく縦長です。この鐔は縦7cm、横6.5cm、厚みは5mmでした。
It is not a perfect circle but a vertically long round shape.This tsuba is 7 cm long, 6.5 cm wide and 5 mm thick.
真鍮石目地（しんちゅういしめじ/Shintyū-Ishimeji)：この鐔の素材が真鍮であること、鐔の表面に石目地といって鐔の全面に石目鏨（いしめたがね）を打って、石の表面のように見せる加工が施されていることがわかります。
You can see that the material of this tsuba is brass, and the surface of this tsuba is processed like the surface of stone.
Processing the surface of the tsuba to make it look like the surface of a stone is called “Ishimeji”.
鋤出高彫（すきだしたかぼり/Sukidashi-Takabori)：平地（ひらぢ）よりモチーフを高くするために、模様の周りを彫り下げることをいいます。
Carving around the pattern to make the motif higher than the flat ground of the tsuba.
角耳小肉（かくみみこにく/Kakumimi-koniku)：耳が直角ではなく、丸みがありますが、鐔の平地より耳が高くなることはありません。
The edge of the tsuba is called “Mimi”.
The “Mimi” is not right-angled and rounded, but they are not higher than the flat ground of the tsuba.
雲龍図は中国故事の画題です。
龍は中国では古くから霊獣として扱われ、普段は水中に住み、時が来ると霊威を発揮して、乾いた大地に慈雨をもたらしながら天高く上る龍になることから、飛躍に繋がる吉祥として、日本人にも好まれました。
龍、麒麟、鳳凰、亀をあわせて四瑞と称し、龍の出現は新しい帝王の即位を表す瑞祥とされ、古代より龍は天子や皇帝と結び付けられています。
A Dragon in the Clouds(“Un Ryū).It was believed that the Dragon was the bringer of rain and good opportunity. It usually lives in the water, but when the time has come, it makes the sky cloudy, causing it to rain and it rises high into the sky. These features made the Dragon a symbol of a successful leap and it was often used as the symbol of Emperor.
